I photographed Astrid and Luis’ wedding in August at The Osprey’s in Woodbridge alongside Audrey Rose Photography. They held a mid-week ceremony, which was a first for me. I have photographed Friday and Sunday weddings but never a Thursday wedding. But, it was unique and I kind of liked that you get to celebrate through to the weekend. Their friends and family were eager to get the festivities started, they arrived an hour early for the ceremony.
Astrid and Luis met in high school and quickly became high school sweethearts. The graduated and attended college and are now both ICU nurses. They work in the same hospital and get butterflies when they see one another in the halls. The love and compassion Luis and Astrid have for their jobs will shine in their marriage.
Astrid and Luis married on a warm afternoon but Astrid was prepared with her pink battery powered fan to keep her cool. She came prepared. However, she didn’t have her fan during the ceremony. Instead she carried her bouquet holding a locket of a photo of her grandparents. Astrid and Luis’ focus for their wedding was to celebrate their two families becoming one. They performed a unity tree planting to symbolize the joining together of two individuals and their families.
Both families have grown up together over the years since Luis and Astrid dated since high school so they had lots of stories to tell at the reception. Every member of the wedding party and both sets of parents toasted to the newlyweds. Luis younger brother even stole the show with how well he gave his speech. In short, these two could not have asked for a better day for their wedding.
