Valarie is a class of 2019 senior graduating from Skyline High School in just a few short weeks. Senior sessions for me are both exciting and emotional. I love being a part of the season change in my families lives. It’s crazy to think that my love for senior sessions started when I photographed Valarie’s older sister, Dominique. Now, here we are 5 years later, their mom is watching her “baby” apply and be accepted to colleges, some close and others far away.
The seniors are exciting to be completing this high school career and looking forward to their future. I literally watch a transition happen during my senior sessions. It might be when they start to talk about their future dreams, career and college, but it’s always exciting to see them light up. They are eager and hungry for what the world has to offer them and they should be.
However, some senior sessions make me feel my age and Valarie’s session was no exception. Valarie’s session was a bit more personal for me because she was not only my neighbor when I lived at home with my parents but also our flower girl in our wedding. We have done family vacations together, played in the pool, laughed over silly stuff and just been goofy. Her senior session was no different. She “accidentally” whacked me with a tree branch and laughed afterwards before apologizing, but I know she didn’t mean to do it.
Valarie will attend college in the Fall. She hasn’t selected which college but has been accepted by multiple. I wish you all the happiness, joy and success in your future Valarie. Thank you for letting me be a part of your senior year!
