Engagement photos are always more special when we do them at a venue that is personal to the couple. Dovedale Farm is not only gorgeous but Joseph’s grandparents farm in Keswick near Charlottesville, Virginia. The farm is a photographers dream with mountain views, woodlands, and fields complete with cows. The sights were perfect for Candace and Joseph’s engagement session.
I’m always nervous to arrive at a venue that I have never photographed before because I never know what to expect. However, when I first arrived I instantly fell in love with the cutest white garage with vines growing on it. Joseph’s grandfather thought I was crazy. It had broken windows and was “just a garage” in his eyes. However, it was the perfect start to an amazing session. First, let me tell you about their love story.
Candace and Joseph met at Virginia Tech in the bookstore. It was the very first day of freshman year back in 2012. All it took was Joseph asking Candace to help him find his books and they became friends. They spent time together all freshman year but didn’t start dating until sophomore year. The two shared their first date with a stroll around the Duck Pond at Virginia Tech. These two dated for 5 years, all through college before Joseph asked Candace to marry him. Want to hear his proposal story?
Every year they go on a trip for their anniversary and last year they went to Niagara Falls, which is on my bucket list. Joseph was adamant about taking Candace to Lake Ontario even though it was freezing cold and windy. He brought his parents camera and tripod and set them up for a photo. However, little did Candace know he was actually recording. He got down on one knee and proposed and obviously she said yes, because who wouldn’t say yes to a man that planned such a sweet proposal. They spend the rest of the trip touring vineyards in Canada.
Candace and Joseph are just the cutest. As a girl that loves traditions and anniversaries, their story is just adorable. The way Joseph planned the proposal for October 20th, their dating anniversary and on a lake which is also where they had their first date. He gets major kudos. I can’t believe I have to wait until next October for these two to get married at Lake Frederick but I know it will be worth the wait. In the meantime I get to admire Candace’s engagement ring that he got Candace’s sister and maid of honor to help pick out!
